Capstar is an oral treatment for the very fast knockdown of fleas. Capstar can be used in dogs and cats over 4 weeks of age. Capstar is useful to prevent animals bringing fleas into the home eg; after visiting kennels or after coming in contact with other animals with fleas. Capstar can be used in combination with other forms of flea control. Each packet of Capstar 57 contains 6 tablets and can be used on dogs 11.1 – 57kgs.

Capstar is an oral tablet that contains a fast-acting adulticide for the control of adult fleas on dogs and cats.

Properties

Nitenpyram, the active ingredient in Capstar, belongs to the chemical class of neonicotinoids which bind and inhibit insect (flea) specific nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.Nitenpyram interferes with normal nerve transmission and leads to the death of the insect (flea).Nitenpyram does not inhibit acetylcholinesterase.

Indications

Capstar rapidly kills adult fleas on dogs and cats.

Capstar also treats flea allergy dermatitis in dogs and cats. Regular treatment reduces the number of flea bites experienced by the animal. Capstar is widely used by dermatologists for this purpose.

Capstar has a rapidaction  killing fleas 30 minutes after administration, and for 24 hours thereafter. **PLEASE NOTE IT ONLY LASTS FOR 24 HOURS AND IS THEN OUT OF THE BODY – SO AFTER 24 HOURSOF GIVING THE TABLET IT IS COMPLETLEY OUT OF THE BODY. Dosage and Administration

Treatment can begin on any day when fleas are seen on the animal, and repeated on any subsequent day fleas are seen.

0.5-11kg	1 x small (11.4mg) tablet,on any day when fleas are seen on the animal
11.1-57kg	1 x large (57mg) tablet,on any day when fleas are seen on the animal
>57.1kg	1 x large (57mg) + 1 x small (11.4mg) tabletfor every 11kg more than 57kg,on any day when fleas are seen on the animal

Capstar should be given orally, with or without food, on any day when fleas are seen on the animal. No more than one treatment should be given per day.

Treatment recommendations forflea allergy dermatitis:Once daily in dogs or cats.

Formulations and Packaging:There are two formulations available:Capstar for cats and small dogs (11.4mg nitenpyram)Capstar for large dogs (57mg nitenpyram).

Both tablet sizes are available in cardboard boxes with one aluminium blister containing six tablets.

Safety

Capstar is safe to use in puppies and kittens from 4 weeks of age, and in pregnant bitches and queens.

Worked well!!

By: alysha on 8 May 2020My poor maremma had taken a liking to the sand under the house which would leave him covered in fleas despite using his monthly flea stuff in the pipet. I had been washing him every second day to try and get them out and then came across this stuff, it worked really well the fleas were completely gone the next day. He did start panting after he had the tablet but this was clearly explained in the instructions so I was not worried.(5)

Our dogs love going to the dog park, beach, or Obe

By: Angela on 30 June 2011Our dogs love going to the dog park, beach, or Obedience club, but unfortunately they’re suseptible to picking up hitch-hiker fleas. We negate this from happening, by giving each dog a Capstar before they jump in the car to come home, so any flea that bites them will be knocked out immediately.(5)
